Well Versed
Well Versed is the principal literary publication of the Columbia Chapter of the Missouri Writers’ Guild. Published annually, it features original poetry and prose authored by area writers.
Well Versed: Literary Works 2010 will soon be available.
The Columbia Chapter of the Missouri Writers’ Guild has sponsorship opportunities for the 2010 edition of our literary publication, Well Versed. The literary publication features original essays, short stories, and fiction written by local authors. Submissions are judged for prizes in Prose and Poetry categories, and a selection process determines which entries will be included in the publication.
Sponsorship levels are:
Benefactor - $300 or more
Guild Club Member - $200 - $299
Chapter Club Member - $100 - $199
Author’s Club - $50 - $99
Reader’s Club - $25 - $49
All sponsors will be posted on the website. If received before March 15, they also will be published in Well Versed. Benefactor, Guild Club, and Chapter Club will receive a free copy of the Well Versed edition sponsored and be recognized at our Write Direction Conference.
CCMWG has served the writers of central Missouri for more than 50 years. The chapter sponsors a variety of activities and meetings throughout the year to provide writers both the encouragement to keep writing and the opportunity to perfect their craft.

Well Versed is a year-round activity for CCMWG. Submissions for the 2011 edition are being accepted until October 31, 2010. We invite submissions from published and unpublished authors, members and nonmembers. See our Submissions page for current manuscript guidelines.

The Columbia Chapter of the Missouri Writers’ Guild invites area writers to submit their original manuscripts of poetry, fiction and/or nonfiction for publication in Well Versed: Literary Works 2011. Well Versed is published each year, and submissions are accepted throughout the year. The closing date for manuscripts to be considered for the 2011 edition is October 31, 2010. Here are the guidelines for having your work considered by the editors.
POETRY is published in any form. A maximum of FIVE poems from any author will be considered. Selections should be thirty lines or less.
SHORT FICTION of 1,500 words or less will best suit this publication. All genres are accepted for consideration.
NONFICTION (features, essays, memoirs, etc.) of 1,500 words or less will best suit this publication.
A maximum of three pieces of prose from any author will be considered.
GRAPHICS of original art work and black-and-white photographs are welcome.
All submissions must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman. Prose should use three-space paragraph indention and double-spacing. Poetry should be single-spaced. Pages should be numbered. Spelling and grammar must be as the author intends.
To ensure anonymity and objective judging, place no author identification on the work itself. Place the author’s name, address, telephone number, the title(s) of the work(s), and the first line(s) on a separate page/file. The author page is to include a short paragraph (75 words or less) of biographical information written in third person.
